John and another member from the C3 Farm & Ranch division had the opportunity to tour the Chimney Hollow Reservoir Project this month. What an experience that was to see in person the time and work the crew have put into this project.
As the Northern Colorado population continues to grow, the region has worked on forming a project that will help supply future water demands & offer open space for recreational activities. Construction began in August 2021 with a 4 year construction timeline.
The new reservoir will be located just west of Carter Lake in southern Larimer County and will store 90,000 acre-feet of water when built — slightly smaller than neighboring Carter Lake (112,230 acre-feet). The project will provide a firm (more reliable) yield of 30,000 acre-feet annually, which will meet a portion of the future demands of the participants.

The main dam has recently reached 75-feet-tall, which is more than a quarter of the way to the final height of 350 feet.
