Hearts of Plenty

You know you’re in Loveland, Colorado when…. you drive by a heart monument. Interesting traditions such as our “City with a Heart” program displays over 33-statues crafted by local artists. Appropriately named, “The Sweetheart City,” you can view the sculptures from your vehicle or bike.

You Know You’re in Loveland When Valentine’s is a Big Deal

Speaking of hearts, Valentine’s Day is serious business for Loveland residents. Historically true, the biggest celebration of V-Day comes from Ted and Mable Thompson. The couple pioneered what is now the 75th annual Loveland Valentine Sweetheart’s re-mailing. Sending a valentine reminds someone how much you cherish or value them. Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, the city program mails over 100,000 cards each year. Every card has a special-handmade stamp, which makes the parcel memorable.   

Did You Know? Guy Lombardo WAS Once Mayor?

For those of you who don’t know, when you hear the stylish sounds of Guy Lombardo, you’ll be swept back in time to the 1950s when the musician became Loveland’s Mayor. That’s right! They gave the celebrity the honors after recording “There’s a Lovely Lake in Loveland.” While the song was never a big hit, we can still use the bragging rights and say Lombardo is part of the tapestry making our town exceptional.

Love of Dogs

From dog parks to pageants, Coloradoans love their canine family members. In fact, most apartment complexes allow the four-legged creatures to live harmoniously with their owners. Compared to other states, our love for our furry friends of all sizes and breeds is a plus. While most housing communities allow dogs, we can find our admiration front and center of most dog parks. Not to mention many of our local restaurants and breweries allow our animals by our side while dining. However, it’s always good to contact the establishment before bringing a pet. Dogs are a huge part of our daily lives and part of the Colorado Culture.

Bike Riding is a MUST!

You probably won’t find another state in the country that caters to bicyclists more than we do here. Trails are plentiful, and if you’re super serious, you can trek the side of the mountains for a grand view. Mountain biking is only one part of the activity here. It’s not surprising to see many of our local suburbs have created bike paths throughout their communities, making this exercise fun for all levels and ages. There is a saying “NOCO Like Bikes.” Seems to be appropriate for those who love the outdoors and peddling.

Live Outdoors

Coloradoans love to live outdoors. That statement is especially true for Loveland residents. On any day, our parks and recreation spaces fill with avid athletes and hobbyists who want to indulge in the freshest air in the country. It is common to have your backyard living space as your main living room. No place better than having a pleasant drink on the deck while watching the sunset over the front range. It’s yet another distinction you’re in Loveland..

Elk on the Lawn

It is not uncommon to see elk or deer lounging on your front lawn. Depending on how close you are to the mountains, Loveland, Colorado is home to many mammals, species of birds, and fish. We recommend staying your distance when the herd is present. You will also want to have a camera available as the incredible wildlife is ideal for snapping photos. There are over 750 species of vertebrate and hundreds of invertebrate within the Rocky Mountains alone, where you will never have a dull moment.   

A Mountain Lion is NOT a Pet

A native commonly found in Loveland, Colorado is the mountain lion. While the lion doesn’t make a good pet, they represent our area where we must remember this is their territory. When hiking our trails or parks, be sure to bring a bell and let these cats know you’re coming. Remember: They aren’t as scary when viewing them from inside of a house or car. We as Coloradoans know it is up to us to respect them, even when they are sniffing around the front porch. 

You Know You’re in Loveland When Nearly Every Corner Has a Brewery

Another cultural highlight is the many breweries we have in Loveland and surrounding areas such as Fort Collins. Whatever beer you enjoy from stout to a hearty-lager, you’ll find ale in nearly every corner of Northern Colorado. We recommend you try them all, then narrow down your favorite. We are fond of Berthoud Brewing, Rock Coast, and Loveland Aleworks to name a few. 

Love thy Neighbor

One thing we hear often is how incredibly nice everyone seems. For the “Nice Meter” we certainly have a town full of good eggs. It will impress you with how community comes together in a time of need. Since the town’s inception from 1877, people have been doing good for their neighbors. It is not uncommon for someone behind you in the food line paid for your meal. Or a stranger at the gas station paid to fill your tank. Random acts of kindness are everywhere in Colorado, and that includes our little town.

Make a Mountain out of a Mole Hill

Making a mountain out of a molehill is possible if you live on the Front Range. In fact, many of our properties will have spectacular views of the mountains. It’s easy to feel you’ve slipped back into the Wild, Wild West with all the gorgeous terrain and scenery where much of it looks the way it did when the early settlers came. The hills are a good sign you might be in Loveland with the massive rocks otherwise known as The Colorado Rocky Mountains.

You can’t help but feel you’ve entered “God’s Country” when surrounded by so much beauty. One thing we find fascinating is no matter where you are in the state, the mesas, ridges and basins are breath taking and all so different. We can see many of these glorious rocks right from the suburbs, making these homes even more of value. 

Suburbia

While there are hundreds of houses in and around Loveland, you’ll love the suburbs tucked away or within the city limits. For instance, Lakes at Centerra provides affluent homes with natural lakes wrapping around the perimeters. Friendly communities, with top-grade construction, are only a few reasons home buyers are seeking properties in our little suburbia. Many enjoy the camaraderie you can only experience when living in the ‘Burbs.’ 

A Community of Events

You know you’re in Loveland when every weekend there is a different festival. The community provides a ton of events and entertainment. During the Spring, Summer and Fall our restaurants and bars include live music, contests, and a variety of fun for the entire family. Do not forget to visit the Budweiser Events Center and the Larimer County Fairgrounds for additional activities. One thing is certain, Loveland residents know how to have a good time!

Lakes of Glory

While many ‘Out of towners’ consider us ‘Land-locked’ they couldn’t be more blind. We may not have an ocean, but we do have over 2,000 lakes throughout our state. Loveland alone has multiple lakes for everyone to enjoy. Water skiing, fishing and boating are just some fun found on our lakes of glory. Lake Loveland, Carter Lake, and Boyd Lake bring in both tourists and locals to enjoy our waters. In the summer, you will want to be close by for a cool dip as we reach temperatures in the high 90s. Those lakes are convenient for those hot days, and you will enjoy spending every minute on the water. 

College Proud

With three colleges in the area, it is not surprising to see a variety of people wearing their alma mater in nearly every pub or event. While the main campus of Colorado State University is to the North, many people work at that location and rent or buy homes in Loveland. The University of Colorado to the South and University of Northern Colorado to the East are two more academic facilities where you can get a solid education giving you options. If you have college-age students, there IS the luxury of sending them off without having to move out. In addition, seems students become residents after graduation. That’s why they all ask, “Where did you go to school?” when starting a job. Most likely, they become permanent members of the community because they dig nature and NOCO is a great place to raise kids.

Little League Hub, Kids and Schools

Loveland High School ranks 73.91 out of 100 with U.S. News ratings. New Vision Charter Schools are ranking 9/10 what more can we ask for with schools? Other than having excellent schools, there are sports, after-school programs, and minor leagues for kiddos to stay motivated. You’ll find skateboard parks, kids having fun at the beaches, and a lot more. Also, there are plenty of chances for kids to volunteer work. The weekends are full of activity, including sporting events and kid-friendly shows. Ask any parent in the area and they’ll tell you Loveland is a wonderful place to grow up and to live.
